Job Description

We are seeking an exceptional and dynamic A&R Manager to join our burgeoning team in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This is a critical role for a visionary individual with an acute ear for emerging artists, a deep understanding of market trends, and a proven ability to develop careers from discovery to global recognition. As an A&R Manager, you will be at the forefront of our talent acquisition strategy, working tirelessly to scout, sign, and nurture artists across various genres. You’ll play a crucial part in shaping their artistic direction, connecting them with producers, songwriters, and collaborators, and guiding them through the recording and release process. Beyond the creative, this role demands a sharp business acumen for contract negotiation, budget management, and understanding intellectual property rights. Key Responsibilities

  • Actively scout and identify emerging artists, bands, and songwriters through live performances, demos, online platforms, and industry networks.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with artists, producers, managers, and industry professionals.
  • Evaluate musical talent, artistic vision, commercial potential, and market viability of prospective signings.
  • Lead negotiations and facilitate the signing of new artists, managing all aspects of recording contracts and publishing agreements.
  • Provide creative direction and support to artists throughout the recording process, including song selection, studio production, and mixing/mastering.
  • Collaborate with marketing, promotions, and publicity teams to strategically plan and execute artist releases.
  • Monitor industry trends, competitive landscapes, and technological advancements to inform A&R strategy.
  • Manage A&R budgets, project timelines, and ensure all artist development milestones are met.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between artists and the company, ensuring clear communication and alignment of goals.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of A&R experience in the music industry.
  • Proven track record of discovering and developing successful artists.
  • Extensive network of contacts within the music industry (artists, managers, producers, labels, publishers).
  • Deep knowledge of music genres, production techniques, and current market trends.
  • Exceptional listening skills and an innate ability to identify talent.
  • Strong negotiation and contract management abilities.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency in music industry-standard software and platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Business, Entertainment Management, or a related field.
  • Experience with international A&R activities and global market insights.
  • Understanding of digital music distribution, streaming analytics, and social media marketing for artists.
  • Familiarity with intellectual property law pertaining to music.
