Key Responsibilities

  • Actively scout, evaluate, and sign new musical talent (artists, bands, producers, songwriters) across various genres, primarily within the Ontario region and wider Canada.
  • Attend live performances, showcases, industry events, and open mic nights to identify promising emerging artists.
  • Cultivate and maintain a robust network of contacts within the music industry, including artists, managers, promoters, producers, and publicists.
  • Review and assess demo submissions, digital portfolios, and online presence of potential artists with a critical and creative eye.
  • Provide constructive creative feedback and guidance to artists to help refine their sound, image, and overall marketability.
  • Monitor music industry trends, emerging genres, and artist development strategies to ensure Career.zycto remains at the forefront of talent discovery.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations on potential signees, including market analysis, projected impact, and artistic merit, for internal A&R review.
  • Assist in the negotiation and execution of artist contracts, ensuring terms are fair and beneficial for both the artist and the company.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams, including marketing, production, and legal, to ensure a seamless transition from discovery to artist development and release.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in A&R, talent scouting, or artist management within the music industry.
  • Exceptional ear for identifying raw musical talent and commercial potential across diverse genres.
  • Deep understanding of current music trends, production processes, and artist development lifecycles.
  • Extensive existing network within the Canadian music scene.
  • Superior communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard digital tools, including demo submission platforms, streaming analytics, and CRM systems.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel frequently across Ontario and occasionally other regions of Canada.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Business, Arts Management, Communications, or a related field.
  • Fluency in French or other languages relevant to Canada's diverse music markets.
  • Experience with digital marketing strategies and social media analytics for artists.
  • A track record of discovering and contributing to the success of previously signed artists.
  • Knowledge of music publishing, licensing, and intellectual property rights.
