Job Description

Are you a meticulous and passionate Archivist eager to safeguard historical records and make them accessible to researchers and the public? Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated Full-Time Archivist to join our growing team in Sandy Hill, Ottawa. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the comprehensive management of diverse archival collections, ranging from historical documents and photographs to digital records. Key Responsibilities

  • Appraise, acquire, arrange, and describe diverse archival materials in various formats.
  • Implement preservation strategies, including rehousing, conservation, and environmental monitoring.
  • Create and maintain detailed finding aids, inventories, and catalog records using professional archival standards.
  • Manage digital assets and execute comprehensive digital preservation workflows.
  • Provide expert reference services to researchers, staff, and the public, assisting with access to collections.
  • Contribute to the development and review of archival policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines.
  • Participate in outreach activities, exhibitions, or educational programs related to archival collections.
  • Monitor collection growth, usage metrics, and report on archival activities.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated experience in archival appraisal, arrangement, description, and preservation.
  • Strong knowledge of archival theory, standards, and best practices (e.g., RAD, DACS).
  • Proficiency with archival content management systems (e.g., AtoM, ArchivesSpace).
  • Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to handle delicate and sensitive materials with utmost care.
  • Bachelor's degree in Archival Studies, Library and Information Science, History, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Archival Studies or Library and Information Science with an archival specialization.
  • Fluency in French, an asset in the Ottawa region.
  • Experience with digital preservation methodologies and tools.
  • Familiarity with copyright, privacy, and access regulations pertinent to archival collections.
  • Experience working in a cultural heritage institution, government archives, or corporate archives.
