Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Attorney to join our esteemed litigation team as Counsel. This pivotal role is ideal for a legal professional with a strong track record in court appearances and a deep understanding of Mauritian law, particularly in civil and commercial litigation. As an Attorney – Counsel, Court, you will be instrumental in representing clients in various judicial forums, including District Courts, Intermediate Courts, and the Supreme Court of Mauritius. Your responsibilities will span the entire litigation lifecycle, from initial case assessment and strategy development to presenting arguments in court, negotiating settlements, and drafting complex legal documents. We are looking for an individual who possesses exceptional advocacy skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a commitment to achieving the best possible outcomes for our clients. You will work closely with senior partners and a dedicated team, handling a diverse caseload that includes contractual disputes, property matters, debt recovery, and corporate litigation. Key Responsibilities
- Represent clients effectively in court proceedings across various judicial levels in Mauritius.
- Conduct comprehensive legal research and analysis to support case strategies.
- Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal documents with precision and clarity.
- Provide sound legal advice to clients on complex litigation matters and potential risks.
- Prepare witnesses and clients for depositions, hearings, and trials.
- Negotiate settlements and alternative dispute resolution strategies.
- Manage a diverse caseload, ensuring timely progression and adherence to deadlines.
- Collaborate with senior partners and colleagues on case strategies and legal arguments.
- Stay abreast of developments in Mauritian law and relevant legal precedents.
Required Skills
- Admitted to practice law in Mauritius (Barrister or Attorney-at-Law).
- Minimum 4 years of post-qualification experience in litigation and court advocacy.
- Strong command of Mauritian civil procedure and evidence.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills in English and French.
- Proven ability to conduct thorough legal research and analytical thinking.
- Excellent negotiation and client management skills.
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master of Laws (LL.M.) or equivalent advanced legal degree.
