Job Description
Are you a physically fit, customer-focused individual with a passion for service excellence? Hemingways Collection, a beacon of luxury hospitality on the Kenyan coast, is seeking a dedicated and energetic Baggage Handling Porter to join our esteemed team in Mwangapwani, Donge. In this pivotal full-time role, you will be the welcoming face that guests first encounter, ensuring a seamless and effortless arrival and departure experience. Your primary responsibility will be the careful and efficient handling of guest luggage, from the moment they step onto our property until it is safely placed in their rooms or vehicles. This role goes beyond just carrying bags; it requires a keen eye for detail, a proactive approach to anticipating guest needs, and a friendly demeanor that reflects our brand’s commitment to personalized care. You will be instrumental in maintaining the pristine appearance of our lobby and public areas, providing directional assistance, and offering helpful information about our facilities and the local area. Key Responsibilities
- Efficiently and carefully transport guest luggage to and from rooms, vehicles, and storage areas.
- Assist guests with inquiries, provide directions, and offer information about hotel services and local attractions.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the lobby, entrance, and luggage storage areas.
- Monitor and control access to the luggage room, ensuring security protocols are followed.
- Operate luggage carts and other equipment safely and responsibly.
- Assist with package deliveries and mail distribution as required.
- Collaborate with the front desk and concierge teams to ensure smooth guest operations.
- Adhere to all hotel policies, safety standards, and guest service guidelines.
- Provide proactive assistance to guests, anticipating their needs before they ask.
Required Skills
- Proven physical fitness and ability to lift and carry heavy luggage.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
- High level of reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organization.
- Fluency in English and Swahili.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a similar role within a hotel or hospitality setting.
- Knowledge of the local Mwangapwani/Donge area and surrounding attractions.
- Basic first aid knowledge.
- Valid driving license (Class D or B) may be an added advantage for specific tasks.
