Job Description

Career.zycto is actively seeking a talented and driven Biotechnologist to join our dedicated research and development team in Lewiston, Maine. This full-time, on-site role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge projects that aim to innovate within the life sciences sector. As a Biotechnologist, you will be instrumental in designing, executing, and analyzing experiments focused on developing novel biological products and processes. You will utilize a wide array of molecular biology, cell culture, and biochemical techniques, working both independently and as part of a highly collaborative interdisciplinary team. We are looking for an individual with a strong foundation in laboratory practices, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for scientific discovery. Key Responsibilities

  • Design and execute complex experiments using advanced molecular biology techniques, including PCR, qPCR, cloning, and gene expression analysis.
  • Perform cell culture maintenance and experimentation with various cell lines (mammalian, microbial) for assays and product development.
  • Conduct biochemical assays for protein purification, characterization, and enzyme activity analysis.
  • Analyze experimental data rigorously, interpret results, troubleshoot technical issues, and generate comprehensive reports and presentations.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain specialized laboratory equipment, ensuring optimal performance and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Develop, optimize, and validate new biotechnological processes, protocols, and analytical methods.
  • Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams, including chemists, engineers, and clinical scientists, to advance project goals.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory notebooks and electronic records in compliance with quality standards (e.g., GLP).
  • Stay current with scientific literature and new technologies to continuously improve laboratory capabilities and project outcomes.
  • Contribute to the intellectual property development through innovative experimental design and novel findings.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in aseptic technique and mammalian/microbial cell culture.
  • Expertise in molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, gel electrophoresis, cloning, Western blot).
  • Strong understanding and practical experience with protein purification and characterization methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to design experiments, analyze data, and interpret complex scientific results.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for scientific reporting and collaboration.
  • Proficiency with data analysis software (e.g., GraphPad Prism, Excel, R).
  • Solid understanding of laboratory safety protocols and quality control principles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's or Ph.D. degree in Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, or a closely related scientific field.
  • Experience with bioreactor operation, scale-up, and process development.
  • Familiarity with GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) or GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) regulations.
  • Experience in a drug discovery, diagnostics, or bioprocessing industry setting.
  • Basic bioinformatics skills or experience with sequence analysis tools.
  • Project management or leadership experience in a laboratory environment.
