Key Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, and maintain high-pressure boiler systems, auxiliary equipment, and related utility systems.
- Conduct routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and minor repairs on boilers, pumps, valves, and control systems.
- Perform start-up and shut-down procedures according to established protocols and safety guidelines.
- Troubleshoot operational issues, diagnose faults, and implement corrective actions efficiently to minimize downtime.
- Ensure strict adherence to all safety regulations, environmental standards, and company operating procedures.
- Maintain accurate logs and records of boiler operations, maintenance activities, fuel consumption, and incident reports.
- Collaborate with other maintenance and operations staff to ensure seamless facility functioning.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with industry best practices and regulatory changes.
- Assist in the development and implementation of energy efficiency initiatives.
Required Skills
- Valid Nova Scotia Power Engineer Certificate (or equivalent foreign certification recognized for transferability and willingness to obtain NS certification quickly).
- Minimum 4 years of hands-on experience in operating and maintaining high-pressure boiler systems.
- Strong understanding of boiler mechanics, combustion, water treatment, and control systems.
- Proficiency in diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical and control system malfunctions.
- Solid knowledge of safety protocols, OH&S regulations, and environmental compliance.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and operational manuals.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal, for effective team collaboration and record-keeping.
- Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and operational excellence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with various types of boilers (e.g., fire-tube, water-tube, biomass) and associated technologies.
- Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Additional certifications in related fields (e.g., refrigeration, plumbing, electrical).
- Experience working in a regulated industrial or commercial facility.
- Prior experience working in a multicultural team environment.
