Job Description
Are you a skilled and dedicated Bricklayer with a passion for precision and structural integrity? Gamma Construction is seeking an experienced Bricklayer to join our dynamic team, contributing to vital projects in Mahebourg, Grand Port District, and surrounding areas. In this essential role, you will be instrumental in constructing and repairing walls, foundations, partitions, and other masonry structures on various exciting projects across Mauritius. As a Bricklayer with Gamma Construction, you will work with a variety of materials, including bricks, concrete blocks, and natural stone, transforming architectural plans into tangible, durable structures. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring that all masonry work is completed accurately, efficiently, and to the specifications outlined in blueprints and project documents. You will be expected to prepare work areas, mix and apply mortar, lay bricks or blocks in accordance with precise measurements and alignment, and ensure the structural soundness and aesthetic appeal of all finished work.

Key Responsibilities
- Lay bricks, concrete blocks, and other masonry units to construct or repair walls, foundations, partitions, and various structures according to specifications.
- Read and accurately interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine material requirements and placement of masonry units.
- Prepare and clean surfaces, mix and spread mortar, and apply other bonding materials with precision.
- Measure distances and calculate angles and dimensions, ensuring precise alignment, plumb, and level of all masonry work.
- Cut and trim masonry units to fit specific sizes and angles using a range of hand and power tools.
- Erect and dismantle scaffolding and other temporary structures as needed, strictly adhering to all safety protocols.
- Ensure the cleanliness, proper functioning, and maintenance of all tools and equipment used.
- Adhere strictly to all company and site-specific health and safety regulations and procedures at all times.
- Collaborate effectively and professionally with other construction professionals, including carpenters, plumbers, and electricians.
- Inspect finished masonry work for quality, alignment, structural integrity, and aesthetic appeal.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient work environment on site.
Required Skills
- Proven expertise in bricklaying, block laying, and general masonry techniques.
- Ability to accurately read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, and specifications.
- Proficiency in using a variety of hand tools (e.g., trowels, hammers, levels, plumbs) and power tools (e.g., cutters, mixers) relevant to masonry.
- Strong understanding of mortar mixing ratios, materials, and application methods.
- Excellent attention to detail and precision in measurements, alignment, and finishing.
- Good physical stamina, strength, and manual dexterity required for demanding construction work.
- Thorough knowledge of construction site safety procedures and regulations.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as a collaborative team member.
- Effective verbal communication skills for team coordination and reporting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Vocational training or certification in Masonry, Bricklaying, or a closely related construction trade.
- Demonstrable experience with various types of masonry materials, including natural stone, decorative brickwork, and specialized blocks.
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
- Prior experience working on large-scale commercial or industrial construction projects.
- A valid driver's license.
