As a Public Transport Bus Driver with Citi Hoppa, you will be more than just a driver; you will be the face of our service, the guardian of our passengers, and a crucial link in Nairobi’s vibrant urban fabric. Your primary responsibility will be to safely and efficiently transport passengers along designated routes across Uhuru Park and the wider Nairobi area, adhering strictly to schedules and traffic regulations. This role demands a high level of professionalism, excellent defensive driving skills, and a genuine commitment to passenger safety and comfort. You will be operating modern buses, maintaining a high standard of vehicle cleanliness, and performing routine pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure operational readiness. Beyond driving, you will be interacting daily with a diverse range of passengers. This requires strong communication skills, patience, and a friendly demeanor. You will be responsible for fare collection, issuing tickets, and providing accurate information regarding routes and stops when requested. Handling unexpected situations, such as traffic diversions, minor vehicle issues, or passenger inquiries, with calm and competence is also key. Key Responsibilities
- Operate public transport buses safely and efficiently along designated routes within Nairobi, including the Uhuru Park area.
- Adhere strictly to assigned schedules, traffic laws, and company policies and procedures.
- Ensure the safety and comfort of all passengers, assisting with boarding and alighting as needed.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, reporting any mechanical defects or issues promptly.
- Collect fares, issue tickets, and reconcile cash/digital payments accurately.
- Maintain a clean and orderly bus interior and exterior.
- Provide excellent customer service, answering passenger questions about routes, stops, and schedules in a polite and helpful manner.
- Manage passenger behavior and address minor conflicts professionally.
- Handle emergency situations, diversions, or breakdowns calmly and follow company protocols.
- Complete daily logs, incident reports, and other required paperwork accurately.
Required Skills
- Valid Kenyan Driving License, Class B, C, or D (PSV endorsement essential)
- Minimum of 3 years of verifiable experience as a professional bus driver in public transport
- Excellent defensive driving skills and a clean driving record
- Strong geographical knowledge of Nairobi routes and landmarks
- Exceptional customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays
- High level of integrity, reliability, and punctuality
- Basic mechanical knowledge for routine vehicle checks and minor troubleshooting
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate in Defensive Driving or Advanced Driving Techniques
- Previous experience operating large passenger vehicles or matatus in urban environments
- First Aid and basic emergency response training
- Multilingual abilities (e.g., English, Swahili)
- Knowledge of digital fare collection systems
