Job Description

As a Cafe Assistant, you will be the friendly face of our cafe, responsible for everything from greeting customers with a warm smile to crafting perfect beverages and preparing delectable snacks. You’ll manage transactions with efficiency, ensure our cafe remains sparkling clean and inviting, and help maintain our high standards of service. Key Responsibilities
- Greet customers warmly, take orders accurately, and process payments efficiently using the cash register.
- Prepare and serve a variety of hot and cold beverages, including coffee, tea, smoothies, and fresh juices.
- Prepare and present simple food items such as sandwiches, pastries, cakes, and other snacks.
- Maintain exceptional cleanliness and hygiene standards in all cafe areas, including equipment, countertops, seating, and restrooms.
- Restock display cases, ingredients, and supplies regularly to ensure smooth operations.
- Assist with inventory management, including receiving deliveries and tracking stock levels.
- Adhere strictly to all food safety and sanitation regulations.
- Provide outstanding customer service, addressing inquiries, resolving concerns, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
- Collaborate effectively with other team members and supermarket staff to ensure a seamless customer experience.
- Assist with opening and closing procedures of the cafe, including cleaning, securing, and preparing for the next shift.
- Handle customer feedback professionally and relay important information to management.
- Operate and maintain cafe equipment safely and efficiently.
Required Skills
- Minimum 6 months of proven experience in a customer service or food service role (e.g., cafe, restaurant, retail).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Strong attention to detail, especially regarding food preparation and cleanliness.
- Basic mathematical skills for accurate cash handling and transaction processing.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 20kg when necessary.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Fluency in English and Sesotho (both verbal and written).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Barista or dedicated Cafe Assistant.
- Current Food Handler's Permit or Food Safety Certificate.
- Knowledge of local culinary preferences and beverage trends.
- Experience with point-of-sale (POS) systems.
