Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine checks of the building and grounds to identify maintenance needs and potential hazards.
- Conduct minor repairs and general maintenance tasks, including basic plumbing, electrical fixes, painting, and changing light bulbs.
- Ensure the security of the premises, including locking/unlocking buildings, monitoring alarm systems, and reporting any suspicious activity.
- Manage waste disposal and recycling programs effectively and in accordance with local regulations.
- Maintain external areas, including litter picking, basic gardening, gritting pathways during adverse weather, and ensuring clear access routes.
- Oversee and coordinate access for external contractors, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to required standards.
- Respond promptly and efficiently to urgent maintenance requests and emergencies, escalating issues as necessary.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety policies and procedures at all times, contributing to a safe working environment.
- Manage and maintain inventory of cleaning, maintenance, and general supplies, placing orders when necessary.
- Assist with setting up and clearing down for events, meetings, or presentations as required by the facility.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance work undertaken, inspections, and contractor visits.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 2 years) in a caretaker, facilities assistant, or similar role.
- Basic knowledge and practical skills in plumbing, electrical work, and carpentry.
- Strong understanding and application of health and safety regulations and procedures.
- Ability to perform manual tasks, including lifting, carrying, and working at height (e.g., using ladders).
- Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
- Reliable, proactive, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills to interact with staff, visitors, and contractors.
