Job Description

Cateress Kenya is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Caterer Food Preparation Service professional to join our vibrant culinary team in Dagoretti, Nairobi. This crucial role involves the meticulous preparation of high-quality ingredients, precise execution of diverse menu items, and ensuring all food safety and hygiene standards are strictly adhered to from start to finish. The ideal candidate will possess a strong passion for cooking, a deep understanding of large-scale food production specifically for catering events, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative kitchen environment. You will be instrumental in delivering the exquisite culinary experiences our clients have come to expect, contributing directly to the success and reputation of every event we cater. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook a wide range of dishes, ensuring consistency, quality, and strict adherence to established recipes and menu specifications for various events.
  • Manage and maintain food preparation stations, including meticulous mise en place, accurate portion control, and ensuring ingredient freshness.
  • Strictly adhere to all local and international food safety, sanitation, and hygiene regulations (including HACCP principles) at all times.
  • Assist in comprehensive inventory management, including receiving, storing, and rotating food supplies efficiently to minimize waste and ensure stock freshness.
  • Collaborate effectively and communicate clearly with the Head Chef and other kitchen staff to ensure smooth workflow, efficient production, and timely service delivery.
  • Operate and maintain all kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, reporting any malfunctions or maintenance needs promptly.
  • Monitor food quality, presentation, and temperature throughout the entire preparation and service phases to uphold company standards.
  • Adapt swiftly to varying event sizes, client demands, and specific dietary requirements, demonstrating flexibility and culinary creativity.
  • Actively contribute to menu development, recipe innovation, and special request fulfillment where appropriate, bringing new ideas to the table.

Required Skills

  • Proven culinary skills with significant experience in various cooking techniques and diverse cuisines.
  • Excellent understanding and practical application of food safety and hygiene standards (e.g., HACCP certification or equivalent knowledge).
  • Ability to work efficiently and maintain composure under pressure in a demanding, fast-paced catering kitchen environment.
  • Strong organizational skills, exceptional attention to detail, and a commitment to precision.
  • Effective communication and strong teamwork abilities to foster a collaborative kitchen atmosphere.
  • Superior time management skills and a proven ability to meet strict deadlines for multiple events.
  • Physical stamina to stand for long periods, lift heavy items when necessary, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma or Certificate in Culinary Arts, Hotel Management, Hospitality, or a related culinary field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of progressive experience in a dedicated catering environment or a high-volume restaurant kitchen.
  • Extensive knowledge of local Kenyan cuisine, African culinary traditions, and international dishes.
  • Basic understanding of inventory control, stock rotation, and kitchen management software.
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays, as dictated by event schedules.
