Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and control plant processes using SCADA systems, control panels, and field instruments to ensure optimal performance and product quality.
  • Perform routine inspections of equipment, pipelines, and operating areas to detect potential issues, leaks, or malfunctions.
  • Adjust process variables such as temperature, pressure, flow rates, and levels as required to maintain process stability and product specifications.
  • Execute start-up, shut-down, and emergency procedures safely and efficiently.
  • Collect and analyze samples for laboratory testing, interpreting results and making necessary process adjustments.
  • Maintain accurate operational logs, records, and reports, documenting process conditions, incidents, and maintenance activities.
  • Conduct minor maintenance tasks, including lubrication, filter changes, and equipment cleaning, and assist maintenance personnel with larger repairs.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, environmental regulations, and company policies, actively participating in safety meetings and initiatives.
  • Troubleshoot operational problems, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and other departments regarding operational status and potential issues.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Chemical Plant Operator or in a similar industrial processing role.
  • Strong understanding of chemical processes, reactions, and principles.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting P&IDs, flow diagrams, and operational manuals.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety procedures and environmental compliance.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform basic equipment maintenance.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, fast-paced industrial environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, standing for long periods, and working in various weather conditions.
  • Basic computer literacy for data entry and system monitoring.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Chemical Engineering Technology, Process Operations, or a related field.
  • Certification in Power Engineering (e.g., 4th Class or 3rd Class) or equivalent industrial certifications.
  • Experience with specific control systems (e.g., DCS, PLC) relevant to chemical manufacturing.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Forklift operation certification.
  • Previous experience in the chemical, petrochemical, or refining industry.
