Job Description

Seed Co International Limited is seeking an exceptionally strategic and results-oriented Chief Business Officer (CBO) to lead our business operations and drive growth within the critical Mashonaland East Province, with a specific focus on our Murehwa operations. This pivotal role requires a visionary leader who can integrate strategic planning with operational excellence, ensuring robust market penetration, profitability, and sustainable expansion in the agricultural sector.

The CBO will be instrumental in identifying new market opportunities, cultivating key strategic partnerships, and optimizing our product distribution channels to meet the evolving needs of farmers and agribusinesses in the region. You will be responsible for overseeing all facets of business development, sales, marketing, and operational efficiency, translating corporate vision into actionable plans and tangible outcomes. This includes developing comprehensive business plans, managing budgets, and fostering a culture of high performance and innovation within your teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute comprehensive business strategies to achieve aggressive growth targets and market leadership in the Mashonaland East Province, particularly in Murehwa.
  • Identify, evaluate, and pursue new business opportunities, strategic partnerships, and market segments to expand Seed Co's footprint and product reach.
  • Lead and optimize sales, marketing, and distribution functions, ensuring effective market penetration and customer satisfaction.
  • Oversee financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, and P&L management, to ensure profitability and sustainable growth.
  • Build, mentor, and lead high-performing teams, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Analyze market trends, competitor activities, and customer feedback to inform business decisions and product development strategies.
  • Ensure operational efficiency and excellence across all business processes, from seed production and quality control to logistics and supply chain management.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with key stakeholders, including farmers, distributors, government agencies, and industry associations.
  • Drive innovation in product offerings and business models to maintain a competitive edge and address local agricultural challenges.
  • Represent Seed Co International Limited at industry events, conferences, and stakeholder meetings.

Required Skills

  • Proven track record in senior leadership roles within the agribusiness or FMCG sectors, preferably with experience in seed or agricultural inputs.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement successful business strategies that drive significant revenue growth and market share.
  • Exceptional commercial acumen, including strong negotiation, sales, and marketing leadership skills.
  • Robust financial management capabilities, including P&L responsibility and budget oversight.
  • Outstanding leadership and team-building skills, with experience managing diverse teams in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and business intelligence tools.
  • Ability to work effectively in a challenging and fast-paced agricultural market.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Agricultural Economics, Marketing, or a related field.
  • In-depth knowledge of agricultural practices, crop cycles, and farmer needs in Zimbabwe and the broader SADC region.
  • Experience with international business development and managing cross-cultural teams.
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and policies governing the agricultural sector in Zimbabwe.
  • Verbal proficiency in Shona or other local languages prevalent in Mashonaland East Province.
