Job Description

Save the Children in Mozambique is seeking enthusiastic Childcare Assistants to join our community-focused programs in Jangamo, Inhambane Province. This vital role offers flexible schedules, allowing you to contribute meaningfully while balancing other commitments. As a Childcare Assistant, you will be at the heart of our efforts, providing direct care, supervision, and engaging developmental activities for children in a safe, stimulating, and supportive environment. You will play a crucial part in supporting children’s early learning, fostering their social-emotional growth, cognitive development, and ensuring their overall well-being. We are looking for individuals who can bring creativity, patience, and a genuine love for children to our centres, collaborating effectively with parents, community leaders, and other team members to create a cohesive and supportive network. Your daily activities will involve facilitating playtime, assisting with educational tasks, supporting meal times, and maintaining a hygienic and organized space. Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct supervision and care for children, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
- Organize and lead age-appropriate educational and recreational activities that promote physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development.
- Assist children with daily routines, including meals, snacks, hygiene, and rest periods.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and child-friendly environment in accordance with health and safety standards.
- Observe and document children's behavior, progress, and developmental milestones, reporting any concerns to supervisors.
- Communicate effectively and positively with children, parents, and fellow staff members.
- Support the implementation of individualized care plans or learning strategies as needed.
- Participate in team meetings and training sessions to enhance childcare skills and knowledge.
- Adhere to all Save the Children policies and procedures, particularly those related to child safeguarding.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated experience working with children, preferably in a childcare or educational setting.
- Strong understanding of child development principles and age-appropriate activities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage positively with children and adults.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine love for working with children.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain immediately upon hire).
- Fluency in Portuguese and knowledge of local languages (e.g., Gitonga) highly desirable.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent; a certificate or diploma in Early Childhood Education or a related field is a strong advantage.
- At least 1 year of experience as a childcare assistant or similar role.
- Experience working in community-based programs or NGOs.
- Knowledge of local cultural contexts and community dynamics in Inhambane Province.
- Ability to adapt to flexible work schedules, including varying hours.
