Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Civil Engineer specializing in Construction and Project Design to join our dynamic team in Kisumu. This pivotal role will involve taking lead responsibility for the design, analysis, and execution oversight of a diverse portfolio of civil engineering projects, ranging from structural designs for commercial and residential buildings to water supply schemes, drainage systems, and road infrastructure. The successful candidate will be instrumental in transforming conceptual ideas into tangible, constructible designs that meet client specifications, regulatory standards, and budgetary constraints. You will work closely with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams, providing expert technical guidance throughout the project lifecycle. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the conceptualization, detailed design, and analysis of various civil engineering projects including structural elements, water retaining structures, roadworks, and drainage systems.
- Prepare comprehensive engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, and reports using relevant design software and adhering to local and international codes and standards.
- Conduct site investigations, surveys, and feasibility studies to gather necessary data for design input and project planning.
- Collaborate with architects, other engineers, contractors, and clients to ensure design integration and constructability.
- Perform structural analysis and design for reinforced concrete, steel, and timber structures.
- Review and approve contractor's submissions, method statements, and shop drawings.
- Provide technical support and supervision during the construction phase, ensuring adherence to design specifications and quality standards.
- Manage project documentation, ensuring all designs and communications are accurately recorded and retrievable.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements, environmental standards, and safety protocols.
- Participate in client meetings, present design solutions, and address technical queries effectively.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution.
- At least 4 years of proven experience in civil engineering design and construction supervision, particularly in building structures and infrastructure projects.
- Proficiency in structural analysis and design software (e.g., SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, CSi Bridge).
- Expertise in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D) for drafting and design.
- Strong understanding of Kenyan building codes, standards, and engineering practices.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and meet tight deadlines.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Registration with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) as a Graduate Engineer or Professional Engineer.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent.
- Experience with GIS software for infrastructure planning and analysis.
- Knowledge of BIM software (e.g., Revit) for collaborative design.
- Experience in sustainable design practices and green building certifications.
- Familiarity with FIDIC Conditions of Contract.
