Job Description
We are seeking an accomplished and highly motivated Civil Engineer with significant construction site experience to join our dedicated team in Stony Hill, St. Andrew. This pivotal role involves overseeing all civil engineering aspects of various construction projects from inception to completion, ensuring strict adherence to design specifications, budget, and schedule. Key Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise all civil engineering activities directly on construction sites in Stony Hill and surrounding areas.
- Ensure strict compliance with engineering designs, specifications, local building codes, and paramount safety regulations.
- Oversee comprehensive quality control for all materials and workmanship, conducting regular site inspections and rigorous tests.
- Collaborate effectively with project managers, architects, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure project alignment, smooth progress, and successful delivery.
- Identify potential site risks and proactively develop robust mitigation strategies to maintain project timelines and stay within allocated budgets.
- Prepare detailed project reports, comprehensive progress updates, and meticulous documentation for both internal and external communication channels.
- Provide expert technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and site staff, fostering their professional growth.
- Assist in the strategic procurement and efficient management of materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
- Conduct thorough feasibility studies, detailed site investigations, and prepare precise tender documents as required.
- Implement and rigorously enforce all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies and procedures on site.
- Resolve complex engineering problems and site challenges efficiently and effectively, minimizing disruptions.
- Review and approve shop drawings and submittals, ensuring they consistently meet all project requirements and standards.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 4 years) in civil engineering, specifically in a hands-on construction site environment.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or other relevant engineering design and analysis software.
- Strong understanding of construction methodologies, materials science, and project processes.
- Excellent project management, organizational, and time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to accurately read, interpret, and implement complex engineering drawings and specifications.
- In-depth knowledge of Jamaican building codes, construction standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Exceptional problem-solving and critical decision-making abilities, especially under pressure.
- Strong communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, and proven leadership skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project) for reporting and planning.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or eligibility for registration with the Professional Engineers Registration Board of Jamaica.
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field.
- Specific experience with particular types of projects such as road infrastructure, bridges, drainage systems, or large-scale commercial/residential developments.
- Familiarity with advanced project management software (e.g., Primavera P6, Microsoft Project).
- Certifications in construction safety (e.g., OSHA, NEBOSH) or equivalent local safety training.
