As a Class 5 Delivery Driver, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation and delivery of various goods, ensuring they reach their destinations on time and in perfect condition. Your daily routine will involve more than just driving; it’s about managing your route, interacting professionally with clients, and safeguarding the integrity of every package. You will start your day by carefully loading your vehicle, verifying manifest details against physical inventory, and performing pre-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and compliance. Throughout your route, you’ll navigate Toronto’s streets, utilizing optimal routing software to maximize efficiency and meet delivery schedules. Upon arrival at client locations, you will be responsible for courteous and professional interactions, potentially assisting with offloading, obtaining necessary signatures, and addressing any immediate client inquiries with a problem-solving attitude. Key Responsibilities
- Operate a Class 5 vehicle safely and efficiently, adhering to all traffic laws and company policies.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles, maintaining accurate logs and reporting any mechanical issues promptly.
- Load and unload goods, ensuring secure packaging and proper handling to prevent damage during transit.
- Plan and execute delivery routes efficiently, utilizing GPS and routing software to meet strict delivery schedules.
- Interact professionally and courteously with customers, obtaining signatures and confirming delivery details.
- Maintain accurate delivery records, including manifests, invoices, and other necessary documentation.
- Address customer inquiries or concerns in a professional manner, escalating complex issues to management as needed.
- Keep the delivery vehicle clean and organized.
Required Skills
- Valid Ontario Class 5 driver's license (or equivalent).
- Minimum 1 year of professional driving experience in a delivery or logistics role.
- Clean driving record (abstract required).
- Ability to lift and carry packages weighing up to 50 lbs consistently.
- Strong knowledge of Toronto and surrounding GTA routes.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with GPS devices and route optimization software.
- Exceptional customer service and communication skills.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with temperature-controlled or specialized cargo.
- Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Forklift operation certification (an asset).
- Familiarity with electronic logging devices (ELDs).
