Job Description

Are you passionate about making a tangible difference in the lives of young learners? Children in the Wilderness is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Full-Time Classroom Aide to join our educational team in Nhacutse, Vilankulo. This vital role involves providing essential support to our educators and facilitating a positive, engaging, and effective learning environment for students within our community programs. As a Classroom Aide, you will be instrumental in assisting with the daily operations of our educational sessions, ensuring that resources are readily available, and that students receive the individual attention and encouragement they need to succeed. Your contributions will directly impact the quality of education and the overall experience of children participating in our conservation and life skills programs. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working with children, possesses excellent organizational skills, and is eager to contribute to a mission that blends education with environmental stewardship. You will work under the direct supervision of our lead educators, collaborating to maintain an orderly and stimulating classroom, preparing materials, and helping to manage student behavior in a constructive manner. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the lead educator in implementing daily lesson plans and educational activities.
  • Provide individualized support and attention to students, particularly those requiring extra assistance.
  • Prepare and organize classroom materials, learning aids, and activity stations before, during, and after sessions.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe learning environment conducive to student engagement.
  • Supervise students during activities, breaks, and transitions, ensuring their safety and adherence to guidelines.
  • Assist with classroom management, encouraging positive behavior and resolving minor conflicts.
  • Communicate observations about student progress, challenges, and needs to the lead educator.
  • Support the integration of conservation and life skills themes into daily classroom activities.
  • Participate in team meetings and professional development opportunities as required.
  • Foster a nurturing and encouraging atmosphere that promotes respect, curiosity, and a love for learning.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent (10th grade completion).
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Demonstrated patience, empathy, and a genuine love for working with children.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills in Portuguese (official language of Mozambique).
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • A positive attitude and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with children in an educational, childcare, or community setting (volunteer or paid).
  • Familiarity with local culture and community dynamics in Vilankulo.
  • Proficiency in local languages, such as Changana or Gitonga, is a significant advantage.
  • Basic first aid certification.
  • Experience in environmental education or conservation programs.
