Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Cloud Engineer with expertise in both AWS and Azure platforms to join our innovative and expanding remote team. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to critical infrastructure projects for our diverse client portfolio, driving scalable, secure, and resilient cloud solutions from your home base in Ngoma, Butare, Rwanda. As a Cloud Engineer, you will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and managing robust cloud environments, ensuring optimal performance, cost-efficiency, and adherence to industry best practices. Your work will directly impact our clients’ ability to leverage cloud technology for their strategic business objectives.

We are looking for a proactive problem-solver who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced setting. You’ll be responsible for the full lifecycle of cloud infrastructure, from initial provisioning and configuration to ongoing maintenance, monitoring, and optimization. This role demands a deep understanding of cloud architecture principles, security protocols, and automation tools. You will collaborate closely with development teams, architects, and operations personnel to integrate cloud services seamlessly into existing and new applications. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools like Terraform or CloudFormation, and be proficient in scripting languages such as Python or PowerShell to automate routine tasks and deploy complex systems.

Your day-to-day will involve hands-on work with various AWS services, including EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC, IAM, and Azure services such as Azure VMs, Azure Storage, Azure SQL Database, Azure Functions, and Azure AD. You will be expected to troubleshoot complex issues, implement disaster recovery strategies, and continuously seek ways to enhance our cloud footprint’s reliability and security posture. This remote position offers significant autonomy and requires a high degree of self-motivation and excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with a distributed team. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and manage secure, scalable, and highly available cloud infrastructure on AWS and Azure.
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates.
  • Automate deployment, monitoring, and operational tasks using scripting languages (Python, PowerShell, Bash) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Monitor cloud environments for performance, cost optimization, and security compliance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex cloud infrastructure issues, ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Implement and manage identity and access management (IAM) policies across both AWS and Azure.
  • Collaborate with development, operations, and security teams to ensure seamless integration and deployment of applications.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of cloud architecture, security, and operational best practices.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest cloud technologies and industry trends.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 4 years of professional experience as a Cloud Engineer or similar role.
  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC, IAM, etc.).
  • Solid hands-on experience with Azure services (Azure VMs, Storage, SQL Database, Functions, AD, etc.).
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform.
  • Strong scripting skills (Python, PowerShell, Bash) for automation.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, AWS CodePipeline).
  • Understanding of networking concepts (VPC, subnets, firewalls, load balancers).
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities in a remote work environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate/Professional.
  • Microsoft Certified Azure Administrator Associate or Azure Developer Associate.
  • Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or CloudWatch/Azure Monitor.
  • Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible, Chef, Puppet).
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
