Job Description

Career.zycto is on the lookout for a highly skilled and dedicated CNC Machinist to join our dynamic manufacturing team in Jesmond, Newcastle. As a CNC Machinist, you will be instrumental in operating, setting up, and programming Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines, ensuring the production of high-quality components that meet exacting specifications. Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and program CNC machines (mills and lathes) to produce parts according to specifications.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and G-code.
  • Select and mount appropriate tools, adjust machine speeds and feeds.
  • Perform in-process inspections to ensure parts meet quality standards using various measuring instruments.
  • Monitor machine operations, identify and resolve issues, and perform basic troubleshooting.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering strictly to safety procedures.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and contribute to tool management.
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality control departments to optimize production processes.
  • Document production activities and maintain accurate records.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and participate in team meetings.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a CNC Machinist or similar role (minimum 3 years).
  • Proficiency in setting up, operating, and programming CNC milling and/or turning machines.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and G-code/M-code.
  • Experience with various precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges).
  • Solid understanding of machining principles, cutting tools, and materials.
  • Commitment to quality assurance and adherence to strict tolerances.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Machining.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Mastercam).
  • Familiarity with Fanuc, Heidenhain, or Siemens controls.
  • Experience with multi-axis machining.
  • Ability to perform minor machine maintenance and calibration.
