Key Responsibilities

  • Provide person-centered personal care, including assistance with bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting, while upholding client dignity and privacy.
  • Assist clients with mobility and transfers, using appropriate equipment and techniques as required.
  • Administer medication reminders and assist with self-administration as per care plans and training.
  • Prepare nutritious meals and assist with feeding, ensuring dietary needs and preferences are met.
  • Perform light household duties, including laundry, tidying, and maintaining a clean and safe living environment.
  • Offer companionship and emotional support, engaging clients in meaningful conversations and activities.
  • Monitor and observe changes in clients' health, behavior, or well-being, reporting concerns promptly to the care coordinator.
  • Document care provided accurately and maintain confidential client records.
  • Adhere strictly to individualized care plans, company policies, and provincial health standards.
  • Assist clients with errands, appointments, and community outings as needed.

Required Skills

  • Proven empathy, compassion, and patience in a caregiving role.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Reliable and punctual with strong time management abilities.
  • Basic understanding of health and safety protocols.
  • Willingness to undergo a criminal record check and vulnerable sector check.
  • Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation (preferred for community travel).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of a recognized Caregiver, Home Health Aide (HHA), Personal Support Worker (PSW), or Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) program.
  • Minimum of 1 year of paid experience in a community care or similar caregiving setting.
  • Knowledge of basic first aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience working with diverse populations or individuals with specific health conditions (e.g., dementia, disability).
  • Proficiency in additional languages is considered an asset.
