Job Description

CHEE (Community Health and Environmental Education) is seeking a motivated and dynamic Part-Time Community Outreach Assistant to join our dedicated team in Kiuyu, Mtambwe. This crucial role will serve as a vital link between our organization and the local communities we serve, fostering strong relationships, understanding needs, and facilitating the successful implementation of our health and environmental programs. As a Community Outreach Assistant, you will be on the front lines, engaging directly with community members, leaders, and stakeholders. You will play a key role in raising awareness about critical health practices, environmental conservation techniques, and other development initiatives that directly impact daily life in Kiuyu and surrounding villages. This position is ideal for someone who is deeply rooted in the local culture, fluent in Kiswahili and local dialects, and possesses a genuine desire to uplift their community. You will be instrumental in organizing community meetings, workshops, and awareness campaigns, ensuring that our messages are culturally appropriate, accessible, and impactful. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct door-to-door outreach and community visits to inform and engage residents about CHEE programs and initiatives.
  • Organize and facilitate community meetings, workshops, and awareness campaigns on topics such as public health, hygiene, and environmental conservation.
  • Distribute educational materials, pamphlets, and resources to community members.
  • Collect feedback from the community and report on needs, concerns, and suggestions to the CHEE team.
  • Assist in the identification and mobilization of community volunteers for various projects.
  • Maintain accurate records of outreach activities, attendance at events, and community engagement data.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with community leaders, local authorities, and residents.
  • Support the implementation of community-based projects and activities as directed by the program coordinator.
  • Represent CHEE professionally and ethically within the community.

Required Skills

  • Excellent verbal communication skills in Kiswahili and local Pemban dialects.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and trust with diverse community members.
  • Demonstrated empathy and sensitivity to cultural nuances.
  • Basic organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Passion for community development, health, and environmental sustainability.
  • Residency in Kiuyu, Mtambwe, or a nearby area.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A certificate or diploma in community development, social work, public health, or a related field.
  • Previous experience (1+ year) in community outreach, mobilization, or volunteer work.
  • Familiarity with local government structures and community networks in Pemba.
  • Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel) for reporting purposes.
  • Ability to ride a bicycle or motorbike.
