Job Description
Matekane Group of Companies is seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Construction Operator to join our dynamic team in Quthing, Quthing District. As a Construction Operator, you will be instrumental in executing various construction projects, ranging from road infrastructure to building development, critical to the region’s progress. You will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a wide range of heavy equipment, ensuring all tasks are completed in adherence to project specifications, safety protocols, and environmental regulations. This role requires a hands-on approach, strong mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to working collaboratively within a team environment. You will contribute to project success by preparing sites, excavating, grading, moving materials, and maintaining machinery. The ideal candidate will possess proven experience in operating diverse construction machinery and will uphold our high standards of operational excellence and safety. Key Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, graders, loaders, backhoes, and dump trucks in a safe and efficient manner.
- Perform daily pre-operation and post-operation inspections on machinery and report any defects or maintenance needs promptly.
- Execute site preparation, excavation, grading, trenching, and material handling tasks according to project plans and specifications.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and relevant industry regulations to ensure a secure working environment.
- Assist with general labour tasks on-site when not operating equipment, including manual digging, lifting, and cleaning.
- Collaborate effectively with site supervisors, engineers, and other team members to meet project deadlines and objectives.
- Maintain accurate daily logs of equipment usage, work performed, and any incidents.
- Ensure proper care and maintenance of assigned equipment, including routine cleaning and minor adjustments.
- Monitor the work area for potential hazards and communicate concerns to the site supervisor.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 3 years) operating a variety of heavy construction equipment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of construction site safety procedures and best practices.
- Ability to read and interpret project blueprints, grade stakes, and engineering markings.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and basic understanding of equipment maintenance.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness.
- Physical fitness and stamina to perform demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
- Valid driver's license with relevant endorsements for heavy machinery (if applicable).
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant heavy equipment operation certifications or vocational training.
- Experience with GPS-guided equipment systems.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Prior experience working on large-scale infrastructure projects.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
