Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a highly motivated County Officer to join our vibrant team in Meru, Meru County. This pivotal role requires an individual who is not only adept at project implementation but also a natural at fostering strong community relationships and collaborating with diverse stakeholders.

As a County Officer, you will be at the forefront of our initiatives, working directly with communities to identify needs, design interventions, and ensure the successful execution of our programs. Your work will directly contribute to sustainable development outcomes, improving livelihoods and building capacity at the grassroots level within Meru County. This involves a hands-on approach, requiring frequent field visits, direct engagement with beneficiaries, and close coordination with local administration and community leaders. You will be responsible for translating organizational goals into actionable plans, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards, while strictly adhering to ethical guidelines and best practices in community development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, implementation, and monitoring of assigned community development projects within Meru County.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with local government officials, community leaders, stakeholders, and beneficiaries.
  • Conduct regular field visits to project sites to oversee activities, provide technical support, and gather feedback.
  • Facilitate community mobilization and engagement processes, ensuring active participation and ownership of projects by local populations.
  • Prepare comprehensive progress reports, financial accountability statements, and documentation for all project activities.
  • Monitor project budgets, expenditure, and resource allocation, ensuring efficient and responsible use of funds.
  • Identify potential challenges and risks, developing and implementing mitigation strategies in a timely manner.
  • Represent Career.zycto at county-level meetings, workshops, and forums.
  • Contribute to the development of new project proposals and fundraising initiatives.
  • Ensure strict adherence to organizational policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines in all activities.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Community Development, Social Sciences, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of proven experience in project management and community development, preferably within Kenya.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and work effectively with diverse community groups and local authorities.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Swahili.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel extensively within Meru County.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience with monitoring and evaluation frameworks and tools (e.g., KoboToolbox, ODK).
  • Familiarity with local Meru culture, socio-economic context, and governance structures.
  • Certification in Project Management (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2).
