Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately record verbatim testimony and proceedings using a stenotype machine or voice writing technology.
  • Produce certified, high-quality transcripts of legal proceedings, depositions, hearings, and meetings.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality, impartiality, and professionalism in all aspects of work.
  • Research and verify proper spelling of names, medical terms, technical jargon, and legal terminology.
  • Adhere strictly to established deadlines for transcript delivery and reporting requirements.
  • Mark, manage, and catalog exhibits presented during proceedings.
  • Operate and troubleshoot recording and transcription equipment effectively.
  • Collaborate efficiently and respectfully with legal teams, judges, and court personnel.
  • Stay updated with changes in legal terminology, reporting techniques, and relevant regulations and certifications.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Court Reporter, demonstrating consistent accuracy and speed.
  • Certified Professional Reporter (CPR) or equivalent national/international certification.
  • Exceptional stenographic speed and accuracy (e.g., 225+ words per minute for stenographers).
  • Impeccable grammar, punctuation, and spelling proficiency.
  • Strong knowledge of legal terminology, court procedures, and ethical guidelines.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard transcription software and digital recording equipment.
  • Excellent active listening, memory, and concentration skills.
  • High degree of professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and perform accurately under pressure.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or specialized training from an accredited court reporting program.
  • Experience with real-time reporting technology (e.g., CART services, LiveNote, CaseView).
  • Bilingual proficiency (especially German and English) is a significant advantage.
  • Membership in a professional court reporting association.
  • Experience across various court settings, including civil, criminal, and family law.
