Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Full-Time Court Reporter to join our esteemed network of legal professionals in Heatherglen, Spruce Grove. As a Court Reporter, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of judicial proceedings by meticulously transcribing verbatim records of spoken word during depositions, trials, hearings, and other legal events. This position demands exceptional attention to detail, high-speed stenography, and a profound understanding of legal terminology and courtroom procedures.

Key Responsibilities
- Attend court proceedings, depositions, hearings, and other legal events to capture verbatim testimony and dialogue.
- Utilize stenographic equipment and Computer-Aided Transcription (CAT) software to produce accurate and timely transcripts.
- Proofread and edit transcripts for grammatical errors, punctuation, spelling, and adherence to legal formatting standards.
- Manage and organize exhibits, witness lists, and other supplementary materials related to cases.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and impartiality in all aspects of work.
- Adhere to all legal statutes, court rules, and professional ethical guidelines.
- Meet strict deadlines for transcript delivery, often under pressure.
- Troubleshoot and maintain stenographic equipment and software to ensure operational readiness.
- Provide rough drafts or expedited transcripts when required.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in stenography with a minimum speed of 225 words per minute (WPM) with high accuracy.
- Extensive experience with Computer-Aided Transcription (CAT) software (e.g., Case CATalyst, Eclipse, Stenograph).
- Exceptional command of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
- Thorough understanding of legal terminology and court procedures.
- Excellent active listening and comprehension skills.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to maintain composure and focus in demanding courtroom environments.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree or certificate from an accredited court reporting program.
- Certification from a recognized professional organization (e.g., Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) through NCRA, or provincial equivalent).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a court reporter.
- Experience with remote reporting technologies and practices.
- Bilingualism (English and French) is considered an asset.
