Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise students in classrooms during the absence of teaching staff, ensuring a safe and productive learning environment.
  • Deliver pre-prepared lesson materials and instructions, ensuring students remain focused and on task.
  • Effectively manage classroom behaviour in line with school policies, promoting respect and positive engagement.
  • Respond to student questions and provide appropriate support, clarifying tasks and encouraging independent learning.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and any behavioural incidents, reporting as required.
  • Report any safeguarding concerns or significant incidents to appropriate senior staff members immediately.
  • Adhere strictly to all school policies and procedures, including those related to health and safety and safeguarding.
  • Build positive and professional relationships with students, school staff, and parents/guardians where appropriate.

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging diverse groups of students.
  • Strong classroom management and behaviour management abilities, maintaining control with a positive approach.
  • Ability to engage and motivate students, fostering a positive attitude towards learning.
  • Adaptability and resilience, thriving in a dynamic and sometimes challenging school environment.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail for administrative tasks.
  • A calm, patient, and professional demeanour under pressure.
  • Thorough understanding of safeguarding principles and child protection policies.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, to effectively communicate with students and staff.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Cover Supervisor, Teaching Assistant, or similar role.
  • Experience working with young people in an educational, youth work, or childcare setting.
  • A degree-level qualification in any subject.
  • Relevant professional development or training in education, behaviour management, or child psychology.
  • A valid First Aid qualification.
