Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, patch, and upgrade database software and related products (e.g., SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL).
- Monitor database performance, implement tuning strategies, and optimize queries to ensure high availability and responsiveness.
- Develop, test, and implement robust backup and recovery strategies, including disaster recovery plans.
- Manage database security, including user access, roles, and permissions, ensuring compliance with data protection regulations.
- Proactively identify and troubleshoot database-related issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
- Perform database capacity planning and advise on hardware and software resource allocation.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations, procedures, and schemas.
- Collaborate with development teams to design efficient database structures and support application development life cycles.
- Automate routine database tasks using scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash).
- Participate in on-call rotation for critical database incidents, as required.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Database Administrator with expertise in relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL).
- Strong proficiency in SQL (T-SQL, PL/pgSQL, or equivalent) for query optimization and data manipulation.
- Solid understanding of database design, schema management, and data normalisation principles.
- Experience with database backup, recovery, and high availability solutions.
