Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive dental cleanings (scaling and root planing) and administer local anesthetics as permitted.
- Conduct thorough oral assessments, including charting, periodontal probing, and identification of oral pathologies.
- Apply preventive agents such as fluoride treatments and dental sealants.
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques, preventative dental care, nutrition, and lifestyle choices.
- Take and process high-quality dental radiographs (X-rays) for diagnostic purposes.
- Maintain accurate, detailed, and confidential patient records in compliance with clinic policies.
- Ensure the sterilization of instruments and maintain a clean, organized, and safe operatory environment.
- Collaborate effectively with dentists and other dental professionals to develop and execute comprehensive treatment plans.
- Provide clear post-operative instructions and follow-up care advice to patients.
- Assist with patient scheduling, administrative tasks, and inventory management as needed to support clinic operations.
Required Skills
- Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Dental Hygiene from an accredited institution.
- Valid professional license to practice as a Dental Hygienist in Rwanda.
- Minimum of 2 years of proven clinical experience as a Dental Hygienist.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and patient education skills (Kinyarwanda and English fluency required).
- Strong knowledge of dental anatomy, periodontal disease, oral pathology, and dental therapeutics.
- Proficiency in dental software systems (e.g., electronic health records) and digital radiography.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and function as an integral part of a dental team.
- Demonstrated compassionate, patient-focused approach with a strong commitment to patient comfort and safety.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Dental Hygiene or a related advanced healthcare field.
- Experience working in a community-focused or private dental clinic setting in Rwanda.
- Additional certifications in specialized dental procedures or emergency care.
- Fluency in French is considered a significant asset.
