Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the day-to-day management and publication of articles, multimedia content, and special features on The Hamilton Spectator's digital platforms using our Content Management System (CMS).
- Learn and apply basic SEO principles to optimize headlines, meta descriptions, and body content for improved search visibility.
- Support social media team by scheduling posts, monitoring engagement, and assisting with content creation for various platforms.
- Format and upload images, videos, and other multimedia assets to accompany digital stories, ensuring optimal quality and display across devices.
- Conduct content audits and assist in maintaining content calendars to ensure timely and relevant publication schedules.
- Assist in compiling and analyzing digital performance metrics, providing insights to content teams on audience engagement and content effectiveness.
- Proofread and edit digital content for grammar, spelling, and adherence to house style guidelines, maintaining our high standards of accuracy.
- Stay informed about digital publishing trends, tools, and technologies to contribute innovative ideas and improve workflows.
- Collaborate with editorial, marketing, and design teams to ensure a cohesive and impactful digital content strategy.
- Participate in training sessions and workshops to continuously develop digital publishing skills and knowledge.
Required Skills
- Strong interest in digital media, journalism, and publishing.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace).
