Job Description
We are seeking a visionary and highly experienced Director of Research & Development to lead our innovation initiatives at Blanket Mine. This pivotal role involves spearheading the strategic direction and execution of all R&D activities aimed at optimizing our gold mining and processing operations, enhancing safety protocols, minimizing environmental impact, and exploring new technological frontiers. The Director of R&D will be instrumental in identifying, evaluating, and implementing cutting-edge solutions from conceptualization through to pilot projects and full-scale deployment. This includes advancements in geological modeling, ore extraction techniques, mineral processing, tailings management, automation, artificial intelligence applications, and renewable energy integration within our mining ecosystem.
You will build and lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, and technicians, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, creativity, and data-driven decision-making. Collaboration with internal stakeholders, external research institutions, technology providers, and industry experts will be key to translating innovative ideas into tangible operational benefits. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the comprehensive R&D strategy aligned with Blanket Mine's long-term business objectives and operational needs.
- Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary R&D team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and high performance.
- Identify, evaluate, and prioritize emerging technologies and research opportunities in mining, mineral processing, and related fields.
- Oversee the planning, execution, and management of R&D projects from conception to successful implementation, including budget and resource allocation.
- Establish and maintain strong partnerships with universities, research institutions, technology vendors, and industry experts.
- Ensure all R&D activities comply with industry regulations, safety standards, and environmental best practices.
- Communicate R&D progress, challenges, and strategic recommendations to senior leadership and relevant stakeholders.
- Drive the integration of new technologies and processes into existing operations to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance safety and sustainability.
Required Skills
- Proven leadership experience in R&D or technical innovation within a heavy industrial setting, preferably mining.
