Job Description

The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Part-Time DJ Equipment Assistant to support our diverse range of campus events, student activities, and departmental functions. As a DJ Equipment Assistant, you will be instrumental in ensuring the seamless execution of audio requirements for various events, from student parties and talent shows to official ceremonies and academic conferences. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the transport, setup, and breakdown of DJ equipment, including turntables, mixers, speakers, amplifiers, microphones, and lighting rigs for various campus events.
  • Perform basic testing and troubleshooting of audio equipment to ensure optimal functionality before and during events.
  • Provide on-site support to DJs and event organizers, ensuring all audio needs are met and responding promptly to technical issues.
  • Conduct routine inventory checks and assist with the proper storage and maintenance of all DJ and audio equipment.
  • Ensure equipment is clean, organized, and in good working condition, reporting any damages or malfunctions to the supervisor.
  • Adhere strictly to safety protocols and university guidelines during equipment handling, setup, and operation.
  • Collaborate effectively with event planning teams, student organizations, and other technical staff to deliver successful events.
  • Provide clear and concise communication regarding equipment status, availability, and operational procedures.

Required Skills

  • Basic knowledge of audio equipment setup and operation (e.g., connecting speakers, mixers, microphones).
  • Strong physical stamina and ability to lift and move heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs) safely.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow instructions precisely.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
  • Good problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot basic technical issues under pressure.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as dictated by event schedules.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience assisting with live events, sound engineering, or DJ setups.
  • Familiarity with various DJ software and hardware (e.g., Serato, Pioneer DJ equipment).
  • A valid driver's license and experience driving small vans or trucks.
  • Currently enrolled student at UWI Mona or a recent graduate with an interest in event production.
