This vital role involves operating company-owned vehicles to transport goods between our facilities, to various retail points, or directly to customers within Junction and surrounding areas. As a key member of our supply chain, you will ensure that products are handled with care, delivered promptly, and that all documentation is accurately maintained. Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently operate company-provided vehicles (vans, light trucks) for the transport and delivery of goods.
- Execute scheduled deliveries and pickups, adhering to designated routes and timelines across Junction and wider St. Elizabeth.
- Load and unload merchandise, ensuring proper handling, securing, and care of all items to prevent damage.
- Maintain accurate delivery logs, records, and relevant documentation, including proof of delivery.
- Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle, reporting any mechanical issues or damage promptly.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with dispatch, warehouse staff, customers, and other stakeholders.
- Ensure the security of the vehicle and its cargo at all times.
- Adhere strictly to all Jamaican traffic laws, road safety regulations, and company driving policies.
- Assist with warehouse duties, such as sorting, packing, and organizing goods, when not on delivery routes.
- Provide exceptional customer service during delivery interactions, representing General Foods Supermarket positively.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the company vehicle.
Required Skills
- Valid Jamaican General Driver's License (Class C or equivalent for light/medium goods vehicles).
- Minimum of 2 years of proven experience as a delivery driver or in a similar logistics role.
- Clean driving record with no major traffic violations or accidents.
- Ability to safely lift and move heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) regularly.
- Strong geographical knowledge of Junction, St. Elizabeth, and surrounding parishes.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills to meet delivery deadlines.
- Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic vehicle maintenance knowledge to perform routine checks and identify issues.
- High level of responsibility and reliability.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent qualification.
- Certification in defensive driving or similar road safety training.
- Experience with handheld delivery devices or GPS navigation systems.
- Prior customer service experience in a delivery context.
- Familiarity with inventory management and basic warehouse operations.
