Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and construction drawings to determine layout and specifications for drywall installation.
- Measure and mark cutting lines on drywall panels, using straightedges, squares, and measuring tapes.
- Cut drywall panels to specified sizes and shapes for walls, ceilings, and other architectural features, using utility knives or power tools.
- Install metal or wood framing and furring channels to support drywall panels.
- Fasten drywall panels to studs, joists, or furring channels using screws, nails, or adhesive.
- Cut and install corner bead and J-trim around windows, doors, and other openings.
- Apply joint compound (mud) to seams, screw holes, and corners, and smooth with trowels or knives.
- Tape joints and corners, embedding tape in a layer of joint compound.
- Sand finished surfaces to prepare for painting or other decorative finishes.
- Inspect work to ensure adherence to quality standards and project specifications.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to all safety protocols and regulations.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of verifiable experience as a Drywall Hanger or Finisher.
- Proficiency in all aspects of drywall installation, including measuring, cutting, hanging, and basic finishing (taping and mudding).
- Strong understanding of construction safety practices and procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction documents.
- Excellent physical stamina and dexterity, with the ability to lift heavy drywall sheets.
- Owns and can operate standard drywall tools (e.g., utility knife, tape measure, T-square, stilts, automatic taper).
- Reliable transportation to various job sites in the Dearborn Heights area.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- Experience with specialty drywall products (e.g., moisture-resistant, fire-rated, soundproof).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
