Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Electrical Engineer with a specialization in Building Systems and Power Installation to join our dynamic team in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County. This pivotal role involves the comprehensive design, planning, implementation, and supervision of electrical systems for a diverse range of construction projects, including commercial buildings, residential complexes, and industrial facilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all electrical installations comply with relevant national and international standards, safety regulations, and project specifications. You will be a key player in the project lifecycle, from initial conceptualization and detailed design through to commissioning and handover. This position demands a keen eye for detail, strong problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to delivering robust, efficient, and sustainable electrical solutions. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of electrical building systems, including power distribution, lighting, standby power generation, fire alarm systems, data/telecom pathways, and security systems.
- Prepare detailed electrical engineering drawings, specifications, bills of quantities, and technical reports.
- Conduct site surveys and assessments to identify existing electrical infrastructure and potential challenges.
- Ensure all designs and installations comply with Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) regulations, Electrical Installation Regulations, BS standards, IEC standards, and other relevant local and international codes.
- Supervise the installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems on site, ensuring adherence to design specifications and quality standards.
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary project teams, including architects, structural engineers, mechanical engineers, and contractors.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources for electrical aspects of projects.
- Identify and resolve technical issues and design conflicts during all project phases.
- Conduct quality control inspections and prepare progress reports.
- Provide technical support and guidance to junior engineers and site teams.
- Stay abreast of new technologies, materials, and best practices in electrical engineering for building systems.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, Revit MEP, DIALux).
- Strong knowledge of electrical codes and standards (e.g., KPLC regulations, BS 7671, IEC standards).
- Expertise in power distribution, lighting design, standby power systems (generators, UPS), and low voltage systems.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Proven project management capabilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Registered Engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK).
- Membership in the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK).
- Experience with energy audits and sustainable building design principles.
- PMP or other project management certification.
- Experience in high-rise building electrical systems and data center power solutions.
