Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Electrical Technician to join our dynamic team at Blanket Mine in Gwanda. This critical role involves ensuring the continuous and safe operation of all electrical systems and equipment within our underground and surface mining operations. The Electrical Technician will be responsible for performing a wide range of electrical maintenance, repair, and installation tasks, contributing directly to the efficiency, safety, and productivity of our gold mining processes. You will work within a supportive team environment, adhering strictly to company safety protocols and national electrical codes. Key Responsibilities
- Execute scheduled preventive maintenance and routine inspections on all electrical installations, including motors, control panels, lighting, and power distribution systems.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex electrical faults in mining machinery, conveyors, pumps, and other plant equipment, ensuring minimal downtime.
- Perform repairs, replacements, and overhauls of electrical components, wiring, and control systems safely and efficiently.
- Install and commission new electrical equipment and systems, ensuring compliance with specifications and regulatory standards.
- Conduct safety checks and ensure all electrical work adheres to Caledonia Mining's stringent safety policies and national electrical regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections performed.
- Respond promptly to electrical breakdowns and emergencies, working under pressure to restore operations swiftly.
- Collaborate effectively with mechanical technicians, engineers, and production staff to optimize equipment performance and resolve interdisciplinary issues.
- Utilize electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals to guide fault finding and installation processes.
Required Skills
- National Certificate/Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent trade qualification.
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience as an Electrical Technician in a heavy industrial or mining environment.
- Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing faults in industrial electrical control systems, including motor control circuits.
- Sound knowledge of low voltage (LV) and medium voltage (MV) electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.
- Strong understanding of electrical safety regulations and best practices.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a demanding environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Higher National Diploma (HND) in Electrical Engineering.
- Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Variable Speed Drives (VSDs).
- Experience working with mining-specific equipment (e.g., crushers, mills, winders).
- Valid First Aid certificate.
- Membership with a recognized professional body.
