Job Description

Are you a highly skilled and safety-conscious Electrician looking for an exciting contract opportunity with a leading industrial player? Bamburi Cement PLC is seeking a dedicated and experienced Contract Electrician to join our dynamic maintenance team at our Mombasa plant. In this vital role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the continuous and safe operation of our sophisticated electrical systems, which are critical to our cement production processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures in accordance with relevant codes and safety standards.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical malfunctions using appropriate testing devices.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on electrical systems and components to ensure operational reliability and longevity.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, circuit diagrams, and electrical schematics.
  • Respond to emergency breakdowns and provide prompt, effective electrical support to minimize production downtime.
  • Ensure compliance with all electrical safety regulations, company policies, and best practices.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities.
  • Collaborate with engineering and other maintenance teams on projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Operate power tools, hand tools, and testing equipment safely and effectively.

Required Skills

  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Electricals, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a practicing Electrician in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing electrical control systems, motors, VFDs, and PLC systems.
  • Strong understanding of electrical safety procedures and regulations (e.g., OSHA, local electrical codes).
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Demonstrated experience with both low and high voltage systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Higher National Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience with cement manufacturing equipment and processes.
  • Certification in specific electrical control systems or PLCs (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley).
  • Valid electrical license or certification from a recognized authority.
  • Experience with SAP PM module for maintenance management.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
