Job Description

As an Employee Relations Specialist at Career.zycto, you will be instrumental in fostering a positive, equitable, and legally compliant work environment across our diverse, remote-first workforce. This role requires a skilled professional who can navigate complex employee relations issues with empathy, discretion, and a deep understanding of employment law. You will serve as a trusted advisor to employees and management, providing guidance on policies, conflict resolution, performance management, and disciplinary actions. Your ability to investigate sensitive matters thoroughly, mediate disputes effectively, and implement fair solutions will be critical to maintaining our high standards of workplace integrity and employee satisfaction. You will proactively identify trends, develop training programs, and contribute to the continuous improvement of our ER strategies, supporting our mission to empower thriving workplaces.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough, impartial, and timely investigations into employee complaints, grievances, and alleged policy violations, producing comprehensive reports.
  • Provide expert guidance, coaching, and support to managers and employees on a wide range of employee relations matters, including performance management, disciplinary actions, accommodations, and conflict resolution.
  • Interpret and apply company policies, procedures, and relevant employment laws and regulations, ensuring consistent and fair application (e.g., Ontario Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code).
  • Develop and deliver engaging training programs and workshops on employee relations topics such as respectful workplace, harassment prevention, and effective performance conversations.
  • Mediate conflicts and disputes between employees, facilitating constructive dialogue and fostering positive, sustainable resolutions.
  • Collaborate closely with HR Business Partners, Legal counsel, and other stakeholders on complex ER cases, risk mitigation strategies, and policy development.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and comprehensive documentation of all employee relations cases, investigations, and resolutions.
  • Proactively identify and analyze employee relations trends, recommending systemic improvements and preventative measures to enhance workplace culture and mitigate risks.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in an Employee Relations or HR Generalist role with a strong ER focus.
  • Demonstrated expertise in conducting comprehensive workplace investigations from intake to resolution.
  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian employment law, specifically the Ontario Employment Standards Act (ESA) and Human Rights Code.
  • Exceptional communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, and active listening skills, with the ability to influence and persuade at all levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, coupled with a keen eye for detail and strong critical thinking.
  • Proven ability to maintain strict confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and demonstrate integrity in sensitive and high-stakes situations.
  • Proficiency in HRIS and case management systems, with a comfort in utilizing technology for remote work.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a fully remote team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) or Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designation.
  • Experience working in a fully remote or hybrid organizational model, navigating the unique challenges of dispersed teams.
  • Certification or extensive experience in mediation and alternative dispute resolution techniques.
  • Post-graduate degree or specialized certification in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or a related field.
