Zanzibar Serena Hotel is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Part-Time Environment Cleanup Assistant to join our vibrant team. This crucial role involves maintaining the cleanliness and aesthetic appeal of our hotel grounds, including gardens, public areas, and designated surrounding spaces, ensuring they reflect our commitment to environmental excellence and guest satisfaction. You will be instrumental in supporting our ongoing efforts to minimize our ecological footprint and enhance the natural surroundings that make Zanzibar so special. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily litter collection and waste removal from hotel grounds, including gardens, pathways, and common outdoor areas.
  • Sort and dispose of waste materials according to established recycling and waste management protocols.
  • Assist with the maintenance and cleanup of designated beachfront areas, if applicable.
  • Support landscaping and gardening teams by clearing debris, raking leaves, and assisting with general tidiness.
  • Report any maintenance issues, hazards, or larger cleanup requirements to the supervisor promptly.
  • Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies.
  • Operate cleaning equipment safely and efficiently, as required.
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure a consistently clean and welcoming environment for guests and staff.
  • Participate in hotel-wide environmental initiatives and awareness programs.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in general cleanup, landscaping, or similar outdoor work.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to maintaining cleanliness.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Basic understanding of waste segregation and recycling practices.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills (verbal) in English or Swahili.
  • Flexibility to work part-time hours, including weekends and public holidays as per operational needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience working in a hotel or hospitality environment.
  • Knowledge of local environmental issues and sustainable practices in Zanzibar.
  • First Aid certification is a plus.
