Job Description
Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and meticulous Environmental Inspector to join our growing team in Downtown, Glendive. This critical full-time role involves ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations across various projects and sites within the Glendive region. As an Environmental Inspector, you will be on the front lines, evaluating potential environmental impacts, enforcing permits, and conducting thorough inspections to protect public health and the natural environment. You will play a pivotal role in identifying hazards, documenting findings, and recommending corrective actions to maintain ecological integrity and regulatory adherence. This position demands a keen eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex environmental information clearly and effectively to diverse stakeholders, including contractors, landowners, and regulatory bodies. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular on-site inspections of various projects (construction, industrial, agricultural) to ensure compliance with environmental laws, regulations, permits, and best management practices.
- Identify, document, and report environmental violations, non-compliance issues, and potential hazards using detailed field notes, photographs, and standardized forms.
- Interpret complex environmental regulations and permit requirements to provide guidance and recommendations to contractors, project managers, and property owners.
- Investigate environmental complaints, incidents, and spills, determining causes, impacts, and recommending appropriate corrective and preventative measures.
- Prepare comprehensive inspection reports, enforcement actions, and other required documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
- Collect environmental samples (e.g., soil, water, air) for laboratory analysis as needed, following established protocols.
- Collaborate with internal teams, regulatory agencies, and external stakeholders to facilitate environmental compliance and resolution of issues.
- Participate in public outreach and educational initiatives related to environmental protection and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of environmental laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
- Assist in the development and implementation of environmental management plans and procedures.
Required Skills
- Strong understanding of federal, state, and local environmental regulations (e.g., Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, CERCLA, RCRA)
- Proficiency in conducting field inspections and documenting findings accurately
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to interpret technical documents, blueprints, and environmental reports
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various project sites
- Physical ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and traverse uneven terrain
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field
- Certifications such as OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER, Stormwater Management (CPSWQ/CPESC), or other relevant environmental professional certifications
- Experience with GIS software for mapping and data analysis
- Familiarity with environmental sampling techniques and equipment
- Experience working with regulatory agencies or in an enforcement capacity
