Job Description
Career.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Part-Time Event Lighting Technician to join our dynamic team in the Moncton area. If you possess a passion for creating impactful visual experiences and have a solid understanding of event lighting systems, this is an excellent opportunity to contribute your talents to a wide array of live events.
In this role, you will be instrumental in bringing our clients’ visions to life, from corporate conferences and gala dinners to concerts and community festivals. You will work closely with our event production team, project managers, and creative directors to ensure all lighting elements are executed flawlessly. This isn’t just about plugging in lights; it’s about understanding the artistic intent, knowing how to achieve specific moods and effects, and being able to adapt to changing event requirements on the fly. You’ll be responsible for the entire lifecycle of lighting for an event, including initial setup, programming, operation during the event, and efficient strike and inventory management.
We are looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, can handle the physical demands of equipment setup and teardown, and has a keen eye for detail. Key Responsibilities
- Load, unload, set up, and tear down a variety of lighting equipment, including intelligent lights, conventional fixtures, consoles, dimmers, and trussing.
- Execute lighting designs according to event specifications, working from plots and verbal instructions.
- Program and operate lighting consoles (e.g., GrandMA, Hog, Avolites) during live events, ensuring seamless transitions and cues.
- Perform routine maintenance, testing, and repair of lighting equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Collaborate effectively with event managers, audio technicians, video specialists, and other crew members.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with lighting systems efficiently during setup and live events.
- Adhere strictly to safety protocols and best practices for rigging, electrical connections, and stage operations.
- Maintain accurate inventory records of lighting equipment and report any damages or missing items.
- Provide technical support and guidance to junior technicians or volunteers as needed.
- Ensure the aesthetic quality and visual impact of lighting meets or exceeds client expectations.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in setting up and operating various theatrical and event lighting fixtures and systems.
- Strong understanding of DMX and Art-Net protocols.
- Ability to read and interpret lighting plots and technical drawings.
- Experience with at least one professional lighting console (e.g., GrandMA, Hog, Avolites, ETC Ion/Element).
- Basic knowledge of electrical systems and safety procedures for event power distribution.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills under pressure.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to lift and move heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs) and work at heights.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in rigging safety or lift operation (e.g., Aerial Work Platform).
- Formal education or training in theatrical lighting, event production, or a related field.
- Experience with CAD software for lighting design (e.g., Vectorworks, Lightwright).
- Knowledge of video integration with lighting systems (e.g., pixel mapping, media servers).
- Previous experience working for an AV company or in a live event venue.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
