Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare a wide variety of baked goods, including breads, pastries, cakes, and cookies, following Chantefrais's recipes and standards.
  • Execute culinary dishes, including hot and cold meals, salads, and sandwiches, ensuring high quality and presentation.
  • Manage all aspects of food preparation, from ingredient sourcing and mise en place to cooking, baking, and finishing.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of ingredients, raw materials, and finished products; place orders as needed.
  • Ensure strict adherence to food safety, sanitation, and hygiene regulations at all times.
  • Operate and maintain all kitchen equipment, ensuring cleanliness and proper functioning.
  • Collaborate with the kitchen team to develop new recipes, seasonal menus, and special offerings.
  • Train and mentor junior kitchen staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Minimize waste and optimize ingredient usage to control costs without compromising quality.
  • Oversee portion control and presentation of all food items to maintain consistency and visual appeal.
  • Handle special orders and dietary requests with precision and creativity.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Baker and/or Chef in a professional kitchen environment (minimum 3 years)
  • Extensive knowledge of baking techniques, pastry arts, and culinary principles.
  • Strong understanding of food safety and sanitation regulations (HACCP preferred).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced setting.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Creativity and attention to detail in food presentation.
  • Physical stamina to stand for long periods and lift heavy objects.
  • Proficiency in both English and French (Mauritian Creole is a plus).

Preferred Qualifications
