Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Construction Equipment Operator to join our dynamic team on a crucial infrastructure project in Gokwe, Midlands Province. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating a variety of heavy machinery safely and efficiently to support our construction operations. This role demands a keen eye for detail, a strong commitment to safety protocols, and the ability to work collaboratively within a project team to achieve critical deadlines. You will be instrumental in executing earthworks, material handling, and site preparation tasks, ensuring that all operations adhere to project specifications and industry best practices. Key Responsibilities
- Operate heavy construction equipment, including but not limited to excavators, bulldozers, graders, wheel loaders, compactors, and articulated dump trucks, in a safe and efficient manner.
- Perform daily pre-shift inspections and routine maintenance checks on equipment, such as checking fluid levels, tire pressure, and reporting any defects or malfunctions promptly.
- Adhere strictly to all site safety regulations, company policies, and occupational health and safety standards to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
- Execute tasks according to project plans, specifications, and instructions from site supervisors and engineers, ensuring precise execution of earthmoving and grading activities.
- Assist with manual labour tasks on the ground when equipment is not in use or as directed by the supervisor to support overall project progress.
- Communicate effectively with other team members, including flaggers, ground crew, and supervisors, to ensure coordinated and safe operations.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and ensure equipment is properly stored and secured at the end of each shift.
- Monitor equipment performance and report any unusual noises, vibrations, or operational issues to the maintenance team immediately.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of proven experience operating multiple types of heavy construction equipment.
- Valid Class 2 Driver's License and relevant operator's certificates for heavy machinery.
- Thorough knowledge of heavy equipment operation, safety procedures, and basic maintenance.
- Strong understanding of site safety regulations and commitment to safe work practices.
- Ability to read and interpret basic site plans, grades, and survey markings.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination, depth perception, and spatial awareness.
- Physical stamina and the ability to work in various weather conditions and challenging terrains.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent vocational training.
- Additional certifications in specific equipment operation (e.g., crane operation, specialized excavation).
- Experience working on large-scale civil engineering or road construction projects.
- Basic mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting minor equipment issues.
