Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and experienced Machine Operator to join our dynamic team at the Cam & Motor Gold Mine in Kadoma. As a Machine Operator, you will be instrumental in the safe and efficient operation of various heavy machinery essential for our gold mining processes. This role requires a high level of precision, unwavering adherence to safety protocols, and a strong commitment to production targets. You will be responsible for operating equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, front-end loaders, dump trucks, and other specialized mining machinery, contributing directly to the extraction and processing of ore. The ideal candidate will possess a proven track record of operating heavy machinery in challenging industrial or mining environments, demonstrating excellent mechanical aptitude and a keen eye for detail. You will work as part of a dedicated team, ensuring that all operations run smoothly and effectively, minimizing downtime and maximizing output. This is a critical hands-on role that demands physical stamina, strong problem-solving skills, and a proactive approach to equipment maintenance and operational safety, all while upholding RioZim’s commitment to environmental stewardship and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment including but not limited to excavators, bulldozers, front-end loaders, dump trucks, and crushers in a safe and efficient manner.
- Conduct thorough pre-start and post-operation checks on all assigned machinery to ensure optimal working condition, promptly reporting any defects or malfunctions.
- Load, unload, and transport materials such as ore, waste rock, and supplies around the mine site according to operational plans.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and relevant mining regulations to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment for yourself and colleagues.
- Perform basic routine maintenance tasks such as lubrication, fueling, and cleaning of equipment, maintaining a clean and orderly workstation.
- Monitor equipment performance, identify potential issues, and assist maintenance personnel with repairs as needed to minimize operational interruptions.
- Maintain accurate daily logs of machine operations, production output, fuel consumption, and any incidents or observations.
- Collaborate effectively with supervisors, engineers, and other team members to meet production goals and operational deadlines.
- Contribute to a positive team culture focused on safety, efficiency, continuous improvement, and mutual respect.
Required Skills
- Proven experience operating heavy earthmoving and mining machinery (e.g., excavators, loaders, dump trucks).
- Valid Class 1/2 driver's license with relevant endorsements for heavy equipment operation.
- Strong understanding of machinery mechanics and operational principles.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety procedures and practices in an industrial or mining setting.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions and challenging environments.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination, depth perception, and spatial awareness.
- Effective communication skills and ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
Preferred Qualifications
- National Certificate or Diploma in Plant Mechanics, Diesel Plant Fitting, or a related technical field.
- Prior experience specifically in a gold mining or hard rock mining environment.
- Familiarity with GPS-guided equipment operation and basic machine diagnostics.
- First Aid and Fire Fighting certification.
- A track record of adherence to environmental management protocols in mining operations.
