Job Description

Nyachae Tea Factory is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Millwright to join our dynamic maintenance team. This pivotal role involves ensuring the continuous, efficient, and safe operation of our sophisticated tea processing machinery and equipment. As a Millwright, you will be primarily responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of complex mechanical systems, directly contributing to our production targets and ensuring the consistent quality of our renowned tea products. We are looking for an individual with a strong foundation in mechanical principles, a keen eye for detail, and a proactive approach to preventative and predictive maintenance. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with other technicians and production staff to minimize downtime, optimize machinery performance, and uphold our rigorous safety and operational standards. Key Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, inspect, and repair various types of industrial machinery and mechanical equipment including conveyors, motors, pumps, gearboxes, processing units, dryers, and other specialized apparatus specific to tea production.
  • Perform precision alignments, calibrations, and adjustments on machinery using specialized tools and techniques (e.g., laser alignment, dial indicators) to ensure optimal operational efficiency and longevity.
  • Diagnose mechanical malfunctions, identify root causes, and plan corrective actions using schematics, blueprints, technical manuals, and hands-on inspection.
  • Execute preventative and predictive maintenance tasks, including lubrication, parts replacement, and system checks, to prevent equipment failures and extend asset life.
  • Operate various hand and power tools, hoists, forklifts, and rigging equipment safely and efficiently for the movement and installation of heavy machinery.
  • Conduct welding, cutting, fabrication, and basic machining tasks as required for repairs, modifications, and component manufacturing.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and company policies to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all maintenance activities, parts used, equipment performance, and service histories.
  • Collaborate effectively with production personnel, electricians, and other trades to ensure seamless operations, quick resolution of issues, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to the identification and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing machinery efficiency, reliability, and overall plant productivity.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience as an Industrial Millwright or a similar mechanical technician role in a manufacturing or processing environment.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting mechanical blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and exceptional problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
  • Expertise in using precision measurement tools (e.g., micrometers, calipers, dial indicators) for accurate alignments and inspections.
  • Solid understanding and strict adherence to industrial safety standards and practices (e.g., LOTO, confined space entry).
  • Competency in various welding techniques (e.g., ARC, MIG, TIG) and fabrication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to safely operate forklifts, overhead cranes, hoists, and rigging equipment.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
  • Physical fitness and ability to work in various environmental conditions, including standing for long periods, lifting heavy objects, and working at heights.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma or Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or a closely related technical field.
  • Specific experience within the food processing, agricultural, or tea manufacturing industry.
  • Knowledge and practical experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) for logging and tracking maintenance activities.
  • Relevant certifications in specific industrial equipment or advanced safety protocols.
