Key Responsibilities
- Assist skilled technicians with routine maintenance tasks, including lubrication, cleaning, and basic adjustments of machinery and equipment.
- Perform general upkeep of tools, equipment, and work areas, ensuring cleanliness and organization according to safety standards.
- Support the setup and teardown of equipment for preventative maintenance schedules and planned shutdowns.
- Carry out minor repairs and replacements under supervision, such as changing filters, belts, lightbulbs, or other easily replaceable components.
- Monitor equipment performance and report any unusual sounds, vibrations, leaks, or malfunctions to senior staff immediately.
- Adhere strictly to all safety regulations and company policies, including Lockout/Tagout procedures, confined space entry, and proper handling of hazardous materials.
- Help maintain inventory of spare parts and supplies, notifying supervisors when stock levels are low or when specific items need reordering.
- Participate actively in training sessions and workshops to enhance maintenance skills, knowledge of specific machinery, and safety awareness.
- Operate basic hand and power tools safely and efficiently, ensuring they are properly maintained and stored.
- Provide general support to production teams as needed for equipment-related issues, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and a strong willingness to learn new technical skills.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work effectively as part of a collaborative team.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and strict adherence to all safety protocols and procedures.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, bend, stoop, and work in various industrial conditions (e.g., noise, dust, varying temperatures).
- Basic understanding of common hand and power tools and their safe usage.
- Excellent attendance record and a strong sense of punctuality.
- Effective communication skills to report issues and collaborate with team members.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience (even informal) in a factory, warehouse, construction, or industrial setting.
- Certification in First Aid or WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System).
- Enrollment in or completion of a technical vocational program (e.g., millwright, electrical, mechanical).
- Familiarity with basic computer applications for logging tasks or accessing digital manuals.
- A valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving record.
