Job Description

We are actively seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic, and physically fit Farm Assistant to join one of our thriving member farms located in the beautiful and fertile Qomoqomong, Quthing area. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily farming tasks including planting, weeding, irrigating, and harvesting various crops (e.g., maize, beans, vegetables).
  • Perform general livestock care duties, including feeding, watering, cleaning pens, and diligently monitoring animal health and welfare for various animals (e.g., cattle, sheep, poultry).
  • Operate and meticulously maintain farm machinery and essential equipment, such as tractors, tillers, and irrigation systems, ensuring their safe and efficient use at all times.
  • Actively participate in critical soil preparation activities, appropriate fertilization, and effective pest and disease control measures.
  • Undertake general repair and maintenance tasks for fences, farm buildings, and other vital farm infrastructure.
  • Assist with the careful packing, sorting, and preparation of fresh produce for market distribution.
  • Strictly adhere to all established farm safety regulations and operational procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and orderliness across all farm premises and workspaces.
  • Work collaboratively and harmoniously with other farm staff members to efficiently achieve production goals and targets.
  • Proactively monitor crop and animal conditions, promptly reporting any issues, concerns, or observations to the farm manager.

Required Skills

  • Proven ability to perform physically demanding tasks consistently in various outdoor weather conditions.
  • Basic foundational understanding of agricultural practices, including concepts of crop rotation, soil health, and animal welfare.
  • Proficiency in operating basic farm tools and equipment safely and effectively.
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic, punctuality, and reliability.
  • Ability to attentively follow instructions and work effectively as part of a collaborative team.
  • Good basic communication skills for effective interaction within the team.
  • Strong attention to detail and a steadfast commitment to maintaining high-quality standards in all tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous verifiable experience working on a farm or in a related agricultural setting (minimum 6 months).
  • Possession of a valid driver's license (experience operating a tractor is a significant advantage).
  • Local knowledge of traditional farming techniques and understanding of environmental conditions specific to the Quthing region.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills for record-keeping and measurements.
  • Ability to speak Sesotho fluently to communicate effectively with local staff and community members.
