Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Farm Manager to lead our innovative agricultural operations in Kam Lake, Yellowknife. Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all daily farm operations, including planting, irrigation, pest control, harvesting, and post-harvest handling.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive farm plans, including crop rotation schedules, nutrient management, and soil health strategies.
  • Manage and supervise farm staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations.
  • Maintain all farm equipment and machinery, ensuring regular servicing and repairs to maximize operational efficiency.
  • Monitor crop health, identify potential issues, and implement effective solutions for disease and pest management.
  • Manage farm budgets, track expenditures, and ensure cost-effective procurement of supplies and resources.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all health, safety, and environmental regulations and best practices.
  • Analyze market trends and crop performance data to optimize production and profitability.
  • Implement sustainable farming practices, including water conservation, organic methods, and waste reduction.
  • Maintain accurate records of all farm activities, yields, and financial transactions.
  • Collaborate with local agricultural experts, research institutions, and community stakeholders.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in farm management or a similar agricultural leadership role.
  • Proven knowledge of crop science, soil management, irrigation systems, and agricultural machinery.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities with experience supervising farm personnel.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make quick, informed decisions.
  • Proficiency in farm management software and record-keeping.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license (or equivalent) with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative.
  • Physical stamina and ability to perform demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
  • Commitment to sustainable and ethical farming practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field.
  • Experience with northern agriculture or cold-climate farming techniques.
  • Familiarity with greenhouse operations and controlled environment agriculture.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting and minor repairs of farm equipment.
  • Experience with grant applications and agricultural funding programs.
