Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Farmer to join our dynamic agricultural team within the Lalmatie, Flacq District. This pivotal role requires a hands-on individual who is passionate about cultivating crops and managing plantation operations with precision and care. As a Farmer, you will be instrumental in executing daily farming tasks, from preparing the soil to harvesting the yield, ensuring that our agricultural output meets the highest standards of quality and efficiency. You will be responsible for overseeing specific sections of our plantations, monitoring crop health, identifying and addressing potential issues such as pests and diseases, and ensuring optimal growing conditions through effective irrigation and fertilization techniques.

The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of various agricultural practices, crop cycles, and the safe operation of farm machinery. You will work closely with other team members and supervisors, contributing to a cooperative environment focused on achieving production targets while strictly adhering to all health, safety, and environmental regulations. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform essential farming activities including land preparation, planting, cultivating, irrigating, fertilizing, and harvesting of various crops.
  • Monitor crop growth and health daily, accurately identifying and reporting signs of pests, diseases, or nutritional deficiencies.
  • Operate and conduct routine maintenance of farm machinery and equipment, such as tractors, planters, sprayers, and harvesters, ensuring safe and efficient use.
  • Implement and adhere to integrated pest management strategies and other sustainable farming practices.
  • Maintain detailed records of daily activities, crop yields, input usage (e.g., fertilizers, pesticides), and machinery operations.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all company safety protocols and environmental regulations.
  • Participate in the general upkeep and cleanliness of farm infrastructure, including fields, irrigation systems, and storage areas.
  • Collaborate effectively with farm supervisors and fellow team members to achieve production goals and resolve operational challenges.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in crop farming or plantation management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of agricultural techniques, crop cycles, and soil management.
  • Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting various types of farm machinery and equipment.
  • Strong physical stamina and ability to work outdoors for extended periods in diverse weather conditions.
  • Basic understanding of pest and disease identification and control methods.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a valued member of a team.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and environmental stewardship.
  • Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions accurately.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Certificate or Diploma in Agriculture, Agronomy, or a related field.
  • Specific experience with cultivating sugar cane, vegetables, or fruits common to Mauritius.
  • Knowledge of advanced irrigation systems and water conservation techniques.
  • Familiarity with precision agriculture technologies or data-driven farming practices.
  • Possession of a valid driving license for agricultural vehicles or trucks.
  • First aid certification or willingness to undergo training.
